FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Fairview Elementary School has a new addition: a Little Free Library.

School Librarian Jenny Helton said the Little Free Library was purchased with funds raised from the community, to help students and families have access to books they can take home and keep.

“I decided on this project after noticing how often students asked if there were books they could have, which highlighted their eagerness to read beyond the school day,” Helton said. “While our school library is designed for shared circulation, we also receive many generous book donations that cannot be added to our collection but are still meaningful to children.”

The Free Little Library is open to anyone to leave or take a book, giving students the joy of owning books of their own and building home libraries, Helton shared.

“Also, and most importantly, it reflects their desire to nurture a lifelong love of reading, not just for our students, but for families and the entire community,” she said. “I am grateful for the support and encouragement of our school and district leadership, including Dr. Rutherford, our principal; Mr. Crowe, our assistant principal; and Dr. Barnette, our superintendent, whose shared commitment to literacy helped make this project possible.”

The Free Little Library is located directly in front of the school.
