AHSAA State Bowling Championships begin today, including Fairview

MOBILE, Ala. – The 11th AHSAA State Bowling Championships begin championship play for winter sports this week.

The State Bowling Championships begin, today, Thursday morning at Mobile’s Bowlero Bowling Center with Southside and Thompson, the 6A/7A North and South region champions, rolling in as the No. 1 seeds from each girls’ regional that concluded last week. Girls’ Regional champions in Class 1A/5A are Scottsboro (North) and Orange Beach (South). 

In the boys’ competition, Hoover (South) and James Clemens (North) are the top seeds heading into Thursday’s first round of competition in Class 6A/7A. Top seeds in Class 1A/5A include Corner (North) and Beauregard (South).

Both girls’ divisions open the double-elimination head-to-head format at 8 a.m., Thursday with four first-round matches in each division. The boys’ teams follow the same format in the afternoon session which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. 

The winners’ division finals will conclude play in each division on Thursday with matches set for 11 a.m.

Friday’s competition begins in the third round of the consolation division with girls’ play in the morning session and boys’ play in the afternoon session. 

The state championship matches in both girls’ divisions are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., on Friday, with the “if” game in the double-elimination Baker format set to follow immediately. 

The boys’ play resumes Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., with the championship matches scheduled for 4 p.m. As will the girls’ bracket, the “if” game, if needed would follow immediately.

All bowling championship matches will be televised live over the AHSAA TV Network and live video streamed over the NFHS Network. WOTM.tv will be producing the finals.

Three of the four defending state champions advanced to this year’s state championships. 

Thompson won the girls’ 6A/7A state title and Scottsboro won the girls’ 1A/5A state crown. Etowah won the boys’ 1A/5A title in 2025, and Vestavia Hills, which did not advance this season, won the 6A/7A state championship last year.

Among the top individual bowlers in the 1A/5A boys’ competition are Mikey Horan of Scottsboro and the Fairview tandem Noah Loney and Brandon Brown. 

Horan rolled a two-game total 475 with rounds of 254 and 221 to claim the North Regional medalist honors. 

Loney had consistent rounds of 226 and 235 for a 461 total to finish second, and teammate Brandon Brown had a 420 total with traditional games of 199 and 221. 

Class 6A/7A North Regional boys’ medalist last week was Mountain Brook’s Jacob Phyler, who had a 456 for his two traditional rounds – with a 267 round. Tuscaloosa County’s Dustin Hoskinson (213-225) and James Clemens’ Parker von Oven (247-191) each posted a 438 series. Both are competing in this week’s championships.

Grissom’s Monica Orebaugh rolled 230 and 186 games for a 416 series in last week’s 6A/7A North regional. Southside bowler Cora Clontz finished second with rounds of 157-236 for a 393 total. Clontz rolled a 589 series (3 games) to earn top medalist honors at the 2024 AHSAA state bowling championships in Class 1A-5A. 

Scottsboro’s Grace Anderton, a key member of Scottsboro’s 2025 state championship team, led the North Regional 1A/5A competition with rounds of 178 and 224 for a 402 total.  No individual results were available from last week’s South Regional tourney. 

Addy Walton of Horseshoe Bend has helped lead her team back to the state championships this year after earning medalist honors in the Class 1A/5A state tournament last season rolling a 376 series.
