GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council on Monday approved moving forward with a traffic study tied to school-area congestion. It also advanced an ordinance establishing local licensing for hemp product sales in-line with State regulations and agreed on “Multiplex” as the name for a new City facility.

Council members unanimously adopted Resolution 01-2026 to move forward with a comprehensive traffic study examining traffic flow around multiple schools, including the new elementary school. The study was discussed as a proposal totaling about $13,000, with the council agreeing to pay for the study, contingent on the Cullman County Board of Education agreeing to reimburse half the cost.

The council also voted to adopt Ordinance 003-2026 after discussing revisions to draft language, including removing sections related to distance requirements and enforcement details that members said could be revisited later. The ordinance is intended to allow eligible businesses to seek state licensing for hemp product sales while giving the city clerk or other designated administrative officials authority to sign permission letters for qualifying establishments in good standing with the City.

In other business, officials reported sewer operations were stable despite recent heavy rain and said road patching and related sewer work were nearing completion.

The council also noted 17 registrations for Good Hope’s youth baseball, softball and T-ball programs, with registration continuing through Feb. 16.

City leaders said layout work for a new Taco Bell restaurant is underway, with visible construction activity expected to increase the week of Feb. 16, as crews prepare to install plumbing and sewer connections before pouring slabs.

The council also discussed addressing a large dirt stockpile at a City site, noting that no partnership has been finalized, though several parties have expressed interest. Officials said the City is exploring the possibility of working with a contractor who could use the excess dirt in exchange for hauling and grading work needed at City properties.

The next Good Hope City Council meeting will be Monday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
