CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library Board at its regular meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15, saw the Cullman Rotary Club present a $5,000 donation to the Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County for its capital campaign. The donation will go toward bathroom renovations, with the goal of making them ADA-compliant and accessible to all library patrons.

Board members approved the December financials and authorized the closure of an operations account at Alabama Credit Union and the transfer of funds to Premier Bank, completing a previously approved banking transition.

The board agreed on updated branch library contracts designed to modernize agreements with regional libraries and municipalities. The new contracts specify roles in hiring, training and operations, with the goal of having agreements in place by Oct. 1.

Members approved a contract with Select Restoration for bathroom renovations at the main library. City workers will assist with portions of the project, reducing costs by an estimated $15,000. Library officials said the facility is expected to remain open during the remodel, though public restrooms will be temporarily unavailable.

The board discussed growing attendance through programming, including STEAM Club, music classes and digital literacy courses, which have reached capacity.

Plans have been made to explore new accounting service options to improve access to real-time financial data and internal controls.

The Friends of the Library announced a membership drive scheduled for Feb. 12 from 4–6 p.m., with the usual $25 membership fee waived. Upcoming fundraising events include Books and Brews on March 7, Picnic on the Porch during local events like the Alabama Strawberry Festival and Oktoberfest and the Storybook 5K on Oct. 24.

The next regular Cullman County Public Library Board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at the library, located at 200 Clark St. NE in Cullman.
