HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The first JV girls semifinal game on Monday saw the no. 2 seed Cold Springs Lady Eagles take on the no. 3 seed Good Hope Lady Raiders. A strong finish to the first quarter gave Cold Springs the early lead. After stretching it out to double digits at the half, the Lady Eagles would keep Good Hope at arm’s length the rest of the way, as they would go on to knock off the Lady Raiders, 43-31, to move on to the championship game on Saturday.

Hagen Ellis drained a pair of free throws to give Cold Springs the early lead. A driving layup by Gracie Gray tied things up at two, but Zoe Miller broke the tie with a three from the right wing to give the Lady Eagles a 5-2 lead. Ella Eisner banked in a three from the right wing to give Good Hope a 6-5 lead. Jiselle Creel banked in a floater, and Ellis added a trey from the left wing to put Cold Springs ahead, 10-6. Ellis knocked down two more free throws to widen the Lady Eagle lead to 12-6 late in the first. Joli Williams banked in a short jumper from the right side, and Allie Light added a basket down low to put Cold Springs up, 16-7, going into the second period.

Gray split her free throws, then off of the missed free throw, Gracie Garmon gathered up the offensive rebound and put it in down low to cut it to 16-10 early in the second quarter. That’s when the Lady Eagles went on a big run to stretch out their lead. Baskets by Light and Miller, and a pair of treys by Kallaway Mckinnon quickly made it a 28-10 game. The Lady Raiders, though, finished the first half strong. Gracie Garmon hit a basket down low, Riley Lansford banked in a floater, and Garmon hit a controversial basket to end the first half to make it a 28-16 game at the half.

Lansford banked in a floater and got fouled. She completed the three-point play at the free throw line to cut it to 28-19 early in the third. Joli Williams drained a trey from the top of the key, Miller added a basket down low, and McKinnon banked in a floater to increase Cold Springs’ lead to 35-21. Caroline Neighbors and Garmon each hit a free throw to cut it to 35-23 late in the third quarter, but Light drained a trey before the buzzer to give the Lady Eagles a 38-23 lead going into the final period.

Lansford and Neighbors each banked in a short jumper to trim it to 38-27 early in the fourth. Miller laid it in on the other end to make it a 40-27 game, then later in the quarter, Light and Jiselle Creel hit three of four free throws to stretch Cold Springs’ lead to 43-28. The Lady Eagles would keep their double-digit lead for the rest of the game, as they would go on to defeat Good Hope, 43-31, to clinch a spot in Saturday’s JV girls championship game.

Miller led the way for Cold Springs with 11 points. Light and Mckinnon each added eight points, and Ellis put in seven points. For Good Hope, Lansford and Garmon each posted 10 points.
