CULLMAN, Ala. – Pre-applications for the Cullman Housing Authority’s public housing waitlist are available now. CHA Executive Director Marquisha Griffin advised all people interesting in housing should apply.
When it comes to wait times and what to expect as far as the status of applications, she explained, timing is contingent on available housing and the waitlist, which can vary.
“As far as internal processing, we address them really quickly,” Griffin said. “We do pre-applications so that individuals don’t have to submit all their vital documents up front.”
Pre-applications allow quicker processing and allow applicants to be sorted through at a more efficient pace. If someone has found housing elsewhere this allows for the next applicant to be informed and to move on with the next process.
When asked about applying regardless of circumstances and preconceived expectations of wait times, Griffin advised to apply as soon as you can. “Things change and circumstances change. We may have availability in one bedroom quicker than other sizes.”
She continued, “A person can be on as many waitlists as they want. We have two waitlists – the public housing waitlist and then we have the voucher waitlist. They can be on our waitlist or a housing authority in another state. Even Birmingham, Decatur, Athens – anywhere. The more waitlists they are on may increase their chances of being housed sooner. I would certainly recommend it, if you feel like you need housing, to apply.”
You can find the applications at cullmanha.com. Paper copies of the pre-applications are available to pick up at the CHA Administrative Building at 408 Cleveland Ave. SW, in Cullman. It is open Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Applications will be open through Thursday, April 23, 2026, and must be turned in before 5 p.m. that afternoon.
