Addison traveled to St. Bernard to play an area game in both girls’ and boys’ basketball. Addison came away with a sweep as the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Saints 50-20, while the men broke open a close game at the half and won going away 84-37.

Addison 50 – St. Bernard 20 (Varsity Girls)

The ladies from Addison came out strong and dominated defensively as they held the Lady Saints to only three points in the period.   Addison put up 11 to lead by eight at the end of the first.  Addison was led by Morgan Lee who absolutely was on fire hitting three out of four three-pointers in the period. Ava Bartlett did her usual as though she didn’t score, she pulled in two rebounds, two steals, three assists and a block. St. Bernard got their basket from Caroline McBride who also had a strong period with three rebounds and two steals.

The second period had a lid on both baskets, as both the Lady Saints and Lady Bulldogs had a tough time scoring. Both teams scored six points a piece and the score at the half had Addison winning 17-9. Addison’s Emma Cleghorn had five points and three rebounds. Saibre Dover had five boards. McBride led the Lady Saints with four while Avery Hines had three rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs broke their season long third period scoring problem as they outscored the Lady Saints 19-8 in the third. The ladies from Addison probably haven’t scored 19 points in the third quarter in the last four games combined but tonight was different. Lee was dialed in and nailed three out of five three-pointers and had 11 total points in the period. Bartlett had four points, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Cleghorn and Dover dominated the glass as each had five rebounds in the period. St. Bernards Katie Chamblee tried to keep the Lady Saints close as she drained two threes for a quick six points. Little Alexis Cron had two points and two assists, while Sarah Woods had a pair of rebounds and a bucket. Addison had a comfortable 36-17 lead going into the fourth.

Addison kept up the pressure defense and St. Bernard couldn’t answer and had a hard time scoring. Addison won the period 14-3 to take the game, 50-20. Bartlett led Addison with seven points and three boards in the period. Lee hit another three and had a whopping four steals. Cleghorn put her four points in with three rebounds. Chamblee led the Lady Saints with two points and two boards. Tessa Sanders also had two rebounds for the ladies from St. Bernard.

St. Bernard was led by Chamblee who had nine points, five rebounds and three steals. McBride had seven points, five rebounds and three steals. Sarah Woods had two points, three rebounds and three steals. Sanders had three rebounds. Avery Hines had four rebounds. Cron had two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Addison 84 – St. Bernard 37 (Varsity Boys)

It was a tale of two halves, as Addison didn’t show up for the first half, seemingly refusing to shoot a 2-point shots for the majority of the half. St. Bernard did show up, however, playing hard and took advantage of Addison’s matador defense scoring several easy buckets during the first half. Addison won the first period as it was actually back and forth 12-9. Addison dominated statistically in every category. They outrebounded the Saints 20-6. Getting 20 rebounds is a hint at just how badly they’d shot in the first period. Four different Bulldogs hit a trey while Scout Flynn had six rebounds, Kiah Lake had four boards while Connor Lane had three. Elijah Roberts had two steals which was just a taste of what was coming the rest of the night. Aiden Hayes led the Saints with a trey while Sean Daley had a bucket and three rebounds.

The second period didn’t improve in terms of Addison’s shooting, but they still won the period 19-14 to take a 31-23 lead at the half. They continued shooting the deep ball and Joey Wilson hit two threes for his six points to lead the ‘Dawgs. Roberts had four more points while Lake had five rebounds. St. Bernards Gavitt Lewis had five points, Daley had four points and two rebounds. Hayes hit another three with two boards.

Addison came out and still shot the three-pointer, but they were no longer allergic to two-point shots in this half. The ‘Dawgs also turned up the defensive intensity and it was very noticeable. Addison ran away with this period winning 28-5 and went into the fourth ahead 59-28.   The third period belonged to Roberts, who had one of the finest periods of basketball that I have seen in quite a while. Roberts had nine points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists in the frame. Wilson put in seven points with two steals. Lake had four points and three more boards. The Saints were led by Kade Chamblee with a trey while Lewis had the other two points. Hayes had three rebounds while Jacob Tambo had two boards.

The fourth period wasn’t much better for the Saints as the Bulldogs outscored the Saints 25-9 to win the game 84-37. One thing you can say for the Saints, even though they were outmatched talent wise tonight, they played hard and never gave up. Chamblee led St. Bernard with five points. Addison was led Lake with five points. Flynn had four points for Addison, and Kyeler Hill had four boards in the period.

Addison did set a state record for three-point attempts in a single game set by Plainview in 2017-2018. The old record was 57 attempts, by the way they made 13. Addison shot 70 three-point attempts and made 14. Not a great percentage, but they got the win. Addison also had eight different players make a three-point basket which is two shy of the state record of 10 in a game.

Unofficial stats:

Addison was led by Roberts with a game high 18 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 10 steals for a triple double. Wilson had 16 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Lake had 10 points, 13 rebounds and a block. Joe Hacker had 7 points, 3 boards and 2 assists. Flynn had 6 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, 6 steals and a block. Snoddy had 6 points and 4 boards.  Canaan Speegle had 6 points, 2 rebounds and a block. Lane had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Hill had 5 points and 5 rebounds. Judah Wilkins had 2 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

St. Bernard was led by Chamblee as he had 10 points and three rebounds. Daley had eight points and six rebounds. Lewis had seven points, two boards and two assists. Hayes had six points and six boards. Andrew Nguyen had four points, two boards and two assists. Jacob Tombo had two points and four boards.
