Mary Woods Reid, age 71, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026.
Mary was born on July 15, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Arthur and Inez Alston Woods. She attended Cullman High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mary devoted her life to caring for others, working as both a nurse and a counselor, and later retiring as a home health nurse.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James O. Reid; her son, Talmadge “Andy” James and wife Kim; her daughter, Amy “Becky” James Reese and husband Adam; and her eight cherished grandchildren: Milly, Kameryn, and Heidi Tucker; Beau and Brock James; and Alie Ana, Alexandra, and Mila Reese. She is also survived by her sisters, Susan Elizabeth Woods and Kathleen Anne Woods.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Inez Woods, and her brothers, James C. Woods and Arthur “Art” Woods.
Mary found joy in reading, cooking, gardening, and cheering on Auburn football. Above all, she was incredibly proud of her eight grandchildren and delighted in every moment spent with them. She will be remembered for her big heart, her compassion for others, and her deep love for her family—especially her devoted love for her husband, Jim.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 12 p.m. at the Alston Family Farm at 303 Alston Road Addison, Alabama.
