CULLMAN, Ala. – The first “After Hours” distribution at The Pantry at The Link this year is coming up Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 4:30-7 p.m. After Hours distributions are designed to serve individuals and families who are unable to visit during The Link’s normal business hours.

The initiative was created in response to feedback from community members who work traditional 9-to-5 schedules and could not access the pantry during the day. The After Hours pantry aims to ensure food assistance is available to all who need it, including working families.

The After Hours distribution offers the same experience as the pantry’s regular operating hours, using the organization’s “neighbor’s choice” model. Visitors receive pre-packed staple items such as peanut butter, pasta, canned vegetables and fruit, then shop for additional items, including fresh produce, meat, eggs, cereal, snacks and other dry goods.

Families of four or fewer can expect to receive about 50 pounds of food, while larger households typically receive around 80 pounds.

First-time visitors do not need proof of income or residency. An ID is preferred but not required. Guests check in through the double glass doors facing Ninth Street, complete a brief intake process and are paired with a personal shopper who assists them through the pantry and helps load groceries into their vehicle. Return visits take significantly less time.

After Hours distributions are once per month on the first Tuesday of the month. Upcoming dates include Jan. 13, Feb. 3, March 3 and April 7. Organizers said they hope to add additional nights as demand increases.

The Link of Cullman County is located at 708 Ninth St. SE, Cullman. Get more information at www.linkingcullman.org.
