CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Director of Communications Lt. Chad Whaley this week officially qualified to run for Cullman County sheriff.

Whaley announced his candidacy back in June 2025.

“What an incredible way to begin 2026,” Whaley said this week. “After months of preparation and prayer, today marks a major milestone in this journey. I am honored and grateful to the Cullman County Republican Committee for allowing me to officially sign the qualification paperwork to run for sheriff of Cullman County. This moment represents more than a signature — it represents a commitment to serve, protect and lead our community with integrity.”

Whaley said as sheriff, he will remain committed to building a class A sheriff’s office.

“Our community deserves so much and moving forward, my focus is clear,” Whaley said. “I want to establish a dedicated warrant division to bring justice for victims, aggressively target high-crime areas and continue the fight against illegal drugs across our county. I want to strengthen and streamline training for deputies and citizens alike, improving professionalism, preparedness and community partnerships in order to create a safer Cullman County for everyone. Last, I want to expand and enhance the SRO program by improving training and adding much needed personnel to better protect our schools and support our students.”

He said the new year brings new opportunities.

“Together, we will continue building a safer, stronger Cullman County,” Whaley said. “Don’t forget to vote Chad Whaley for sheriff on May 19! Let’s move forward — together.”
