VINEMONT, Ala. – The Town of Vinemont will continue its monthly senior events this year. Seniors are invited to come out the third Monday of each month, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vinemont Community Center.
Vinemont Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser shared, “When attending a senior citizen event, expect a mix of shared meals and opportunities to meet peers in a supportive, often accommodating, environment.”
Mayor Bonnie Goodwin, Sasser and the assistant town clerk help plan out the meals and activities for the events.
Sasser said the events would not be possible without the support of local businesses.
“The city council and mayor agreed to start it on the third Monday of each month starting back in January of 2023,” she said. “Every month since then we have steadily increased (attendance). We average around 50-60 seniors each month. We don’t have a theme every month.”
Some months do have themes. In February, guest speaker Rodger Walling will take part in a “Remember When” storytelling event encouraging seniors to share memories of Vinemont from years past.
Sasser said the monthly gatherings are important for providing opportunities for seniors to connect, make new friends and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
“The resulting laughter, camaraderie and conversation are invaluable,” she said.
