CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department’s longest running community policing event, Shop With a Cop, took place Saturday, Dec. 13. Officers took local children shopping for Christmas gifts at the south Cullman Walmart, thanks to generous donations from the community.

The annual event has been happening for more than a decade. This year, said CPD Public Relations Officer Adam Clark, they initially had 20 kids signed up, but added two more Saturday morning.

“One family had a tragedy last night so we didn’t have one here, but we still bought for them,” Clark said. “We ended up getting $12,000 donations from the community. We paid for Chick-fil-A for their  breakfast and lunch and really enjoyed the time today.”

Clark said 16 officers participated in Shop with a Cop, and Walmart also assisted with the family who experienced the tragedy.

Cullman Police Chief Joey Duncan said the event was a huge success. He also thanked the Fairview High School JV and varsity girls’ basketball teams for volunteering their time to help out.

“Shop with a Cop was a lot of fun for everyone involved,” he said. “Seeing the kids’ smiles and spending time with them was what it’s all about. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who showed up and helped make it happen; we truly couldn’t have done it without you.”
