Addison traveled to Lynn to play the county-rival Bears in a boy/girls matchup. The Addison girls came away with a 55-27 loss while the boys came out on top 60-48 in a game that was closer than the score would indicate.
Lynn 55Â – Addison 27 (Varsity Girls)
The young Bulldogs got off to a good start with an Emma Cleghorn putback for a quick 2-0 lead. It was all downhill from there, though, as Lynn scored 15 straight points and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless for the remainder of the period. The Lady Bears dominated in every aspect of the game. They doubled the ‘Dawgs in rebounds and dominated on defense. Cleghorn scored the only bucket and grabbed 3 rebounds. Lady Bears’ Alli Dutton owned the period, and scored 11 of Lynn’s 15 points. Lynn’s Allie Stewart and Allie Beth King both snagged 3 rebounds a piece.
The second period was a little better for the Lady ‘Dawgs, but the Bears’ pressure defense rattled Addison, causing countless mistakes. Lynn took the period 15-7 and carried a halftime lead of 30-9. Addison’s Ava Bartlett led Addison with three points and two blocks. Lynn had Dutton add seven more points while King had five points and four rebounds.
The second half was fairly even, as Addison dropped the third period 14-10 to go into the final period down 44-19. Kabri Dyson and Morgan Lee each hit a three-pointer, while Bartlett had three rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Bulldogs. Lynn was led by Maddie Brooke Rutledge with six points. Four other Lady Bears tallied a bucket a piece in the period. Derrecka Bryan had three boards in the period for Lynn.
The fourth period was the same as each before it. Lynn won the frame 11-8 and the game 55-27. Addison had Dyson and Saibre Dover with three points each. Cleghorn had four rebounds and two more blocks. Lynn had King with four points and Dutton with three. Â
If the young Bulldogs can cut their turnovers both forced and unforced down, then an improvement in the season could be on the horizon.

Addison 60Â – Lynn 48 (Varsity Boys)
With Addison seemingly the better team on paper, this was a shockingly close game. Someone didn’t tell the Lynn Bears that they were supposed to roll over and let the Bulldogs win in the Bear’s Lair, however, and obviously the Bears don’t care about “on paper”. The first period, the Bears didn’t miss- well, let me say Mr. Coby Sherer didn’t miss, as he had 8 of the Bears 11 points. Addison dominated the paint out-rebounding the Bears 12-5, and had numerous shots within five feet of the basket but the Bulldogs couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. Addison survived on pressure defense, getting layups and second-chance points. Connor Lane and Kiah Lake each had four points while Elijah Roberts hit a trey. Lake and Scout Flynn had four rebounds a piece. Lynn was led by Sherer who hit a couple threes for the Bears. Addison led 15-11 after the first.
The second period wasn’t much better for the Bulldogs. Lynn won the period 9-6 to go into the half down 21-20. Addison still couldn’t hit a shot, and Lynn took advantage of their few chances to score as Addison out-rebounded the Bears again. Addison was led by Flynn with four points and three rebounds. Addison’s leading scorer Roberts didn’t score in the second, but helped out with three rebounds and an assist.  Sherer had eight of the Bears’ nine points.
In the third period, things got interesting. Addison played much better on both ends, and held the Bears to only two made field goals for the entire period. Addison made seven shots, but the main difference was fouls. Addison, according to the officials, committed numerous calls and had several players pick up multiple fouls in the period. At one point, Lynn had shot 26 foul shots to Addison’s 7. With Addison leading 39-29 with 3:25 to go in the period, Lynn scored 10 straight points on foul shots to tie the game. Lynn outscored the Dawgs 19-18 in the period with 13 of those points coming from the charity stripe. The game was tied at 39 going into the fourth. Sherer was brilliant again, and scored 13 points in the period. Crowe had four points and six boards for the Bears. Addison’s Lane had a fine period with 10 points, two rebounds and two steals. Roberts heated up with six points, three rebounds and two steals.
The crowd got into the game in the fourth as, on top of it being a rivalry matchup, neither side was pleased with the officiating. The game was back and forth as a Bear would score and Addison would answer. With Addison holding a slim 47-46 lead at the 3:30 mark, Sherer drove to the lane and banked in a seven foot shot to give the home team their first lead at 48-47 and the Bears’ side went bananas.  Addison didn’t fold and answered right back, a sign of a good team. Lane drove into the lane for a lay up and the Bulldogs lead 49-48 with 2:24 to go. Roberts then drilled a NBA-three to give Addison a little breathing room at 52-48 with 1:54 to go. The Addison’s defense was outstanding in the final two minutes of the game as they held the Bears scoreless. Addison finished off the game at the free throw line, hitting eight out of nine. The game got little chippy, with a Bear ejected for a flagrant foul, and then his emotions got the better of him. He was assessed another technical, and he was gone. Addison came away with a gritty 60-48 win. Â
All in all, it was a good win for Addison. They didn’t play their best but found a way to win. Lynn, especially Sherer played a good game and will certainly improve from here on out, as they gave Addison all they had and more.
