State Report Card: County, City school systems report highest grades in system histories

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Alabama State Department of Education Report Card for the 2024-2025 school year was released Thursday, Nov. 13, and both Cullman County School and Cullman City Schools achieved the highest scores ever in their respective system histories. 

Cullman County Schools 

Cullman County Schools earned an A for the second year in a row. The system received an overall score of 91, which, according to the system, is “the highest score we’ve ever had. In north Alabama, Cullman County Schools is tied with Madison County for the top score among county systems in the area.” 

“While everything that is learned throughout our school system cannot be measured with this score alone, I am extremely proud of our students, faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication to continued improvement,” said Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette. “An A on our State Report Card is further evidence of the great things happening every day throughout Cullman County. While we continue to improve I am excited about what the future holds for our students.” 

Said the system: “Congratulations to our teachers, administrators, and staff for a job well done!” 

Cullman City Schools  

Cullman City Schools earned an A for the sixth consecutive year, receiving an overall district grade of 96, “the highest score in system history since the state began issuing report cards in 2018.” 
 
Several key performance indicators also reached historic levels: 

  • Achievement Rate: 91.44% — the highest ever recorded for the district 
  • Graduation Rate: 96.83% — the highest since report cards began 
  • College & Career Readiness Rate: 96.38% — the highest since report cards began 
  • Chronic Absenteeism: 8.27% — the lowest rate since 2019 

Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff praised students, faculty and families for their dedication to maintaining such high performance across the district. 
 
“These results represent the collective commitment of our teachers, staff, students, and community,” Kallhoff said. “We are proud of the strides our district continues to make, and we remain focused on providing an exceptional educational experience for every student.” 
 
Said the system: “Cullman City Schools extends its appreciation to the community for ongoing support and partnership in fostering academic excellence.”
