
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – West Point travelled to Scottsboro for a first-round playoff matchup against the Wildcats and it was a tough night for the Warriors. Scottsboro hit on several explosive plays in the first half to jump out to a 31-0 lead and West Point was able to get a couple touchdowns on the board late in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early lead and the Warriors’ season came to an end with a 45-14 loss.
West Point was forced to punt on its first possession, and it didn’t take long for Scottsboro to get on the board. After a big pass got the Wildcats into Warrior territory, an 8-yard touchdown run gave Scottsboro a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, the Wildcats scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-0 and a 38-yard touchdown pass put Scottsboro in front 21-0 later in the period. A 3-yard touchdown run gave the Wildcats a 28-0 lead midway through the second and Scottsboro tacked on a field goal in the final seconds of the half to take a 31-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Wildcats scored early in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 38-0. A big return from Rush Lamar on the ensuing kickoff gave West Point great field position but the Warriors were eventually forced to turn the ball over on downs. A 19-yard touchdown put Scottsboro in front 45-0 at the start of the fourth quarter but West Point was able to get some points on the board in the final frame.
Warriors quarterback Ayden Ennis hit Bryant Moon for a touchdown through the air to trim the lead to 45-7 later in the fourth and Mason Wilkins took a handoff 29 yards to the house for another score, but it was too little, too late and the Wildcats held on to advance with a 45-14 win over West Point.
With the loss, the Warriors finish the season 5-6.
