CULLMAN, Ala. – Mayor Woody Jacobs on Oct. 29, officially proclaimed Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, as Wreaths Across America Day in the city of Cullman, joining cities and towns across the nation in honoring America’s fallen heroes and recognizing the service and sacrifice of all who have worn the uniform of the United States.
The proclamation supports the national Wreaths Across America mission to “Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom.” Each December, millions of volunteers across the country lay evergreen wreaths on veterans’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 4,000 participating locations — including right here in Cullman County.
Members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) chapter were on hand at Cullman City Hall on Oct. 29, 2025, to accept the proclamation from Jacobs.
“Cullman has always stood behind our veterans,” said Jacobs. “This is one small way to say thank you and to make sure we don’t forget what they’ve done for us.”
Local volunteers, families and organizations will take part in wreath-laying ceremonies at area cemeteries as part of this nationwide tribute. The event not only honors those who have served, but also helps teach younger generations the importance of remembrance, patriotism and service.
Wreaths Across America began in 1992 when Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester donated surplus wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. Since then, the program has grown into a national movement of remembrance and gratitude.
