CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council met Thursday, Oct. 30, for its final session before newly elected members take office Nov. 3. The council recognized the years of dedication and service from all outgoing members, with words of gratitude for the contributions they have made to the city.
Mayor Woody Jacobs thanked the council for its leadership and guidance, saying, “You guys are responsible for casting that vision and sending direction to the mayor on where to steer the ship.”
Outgoing members shared appreciation for the opportunity to serve. Council President Jenny Folsom and Councilman Clint Hollingsworth each thanked residents for their support and reflected on their time in office. Council President Pro Tempore Johnny Cook was unable to attend the meeting as he is currently on a mission trip in Greece. Cook was recognized at the Oct. 13 council meeting.
Councilman Brad Smith spoke about the upcoming lake clean-up days, scheduled for Nov. 4 at Lake Catoma and Nov. 5 at Duck River. He strongly encouraged community participation to help keep the county clean. Councilman David Moss reported progress on the City’s wastewater project, noting rain delays but stating that the first tank is expected to be completed soon, which will help reduce odor issues in certain areas. Moss also thanked his fellow council members for their contributions and reflected on the city’s growth since 2008.
The council approved special event requests for the Warehouse District Christmas Open House (Nov. 8), Cullman Christkindlmarkt (Nov. 20–Dec. 23) and the Christkindlmarkt Parade & Tree Lighting (Nov. 21).
Cullman City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff reported strong academic performance and progress on school construction projects, with a middle school open house planned for January.
The council also honored City Attorney Roy W. Williams Jr. for 25 years of service. His daughter, Marie, accepted the recognition on his behalf.
The meeting concluded with a final expression of appreciation for the outgoing council’s service. The new council will be seated Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at Cullman City Hall. Mayor Woody Jacobs and Councilmembers Kim Hall, David Moss, Jason Willoughby, Paul Schaffer and Chuck Shikle will be sworn in.
