CULLMAN, Ala. – With the temporary suspension of SNAP benefits caused by the federal government shutdown, Cullman Caring for Kids is stepping forward to reassure local families that help is available.
In a video message posted to Facebook, Cullman Caring for Kids Executive Director Pastor Steven Sutter said the organization remains open and ready to serve anyone in need.
“We’re not scared. We’re not worried, because we know that God always has and always will provide,” Sutter said. “You don’t have to be afraid because we’re here and we’re ready to help anyone in Cullman who needs assistance.”
Cullman Caring for Kids operates the United Way Food Bank located at 402 Arnold St. NE, Ste. W1. The facility is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., closing from noon-1 p.m. each day for lunch and restocking.
Sutter encouraged both those in need and those able to give to reach out.
“If you would like to come alongside us and help, please give us a call at 256-739-1111,” he said. “We’ll let you know how you can help and how you can impact our amazing community. Thank you, Cullman County, for stepping up like you always do. We look forward to getting through one more bump in the road, like we always have. God bless you.”

Background
The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) received specific guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) the evening of Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, regarding the suspension of SNAP benefits and procedures for the month of November due to the federal government shutdown.
Recipients will be able to use benefits issued to their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card prior to Nov. 1, 2025, at any SNAP authorized retailer.
The guidance states that effective Nov. 1, 2025, “FNS is suspending all November 2025 benefit allotments until…federal funding is provided, or until FNS directs State agencies otherwise.” No new benefits will be issued during the suspension; however, there are no other changes to the program or client requirements.
