Hanceville Trunk-or-Treat held indoors due to rain

HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Despite rainy weather, families still gathered Sunday afternoon for the annual Hanceville Trunk-or-Treat, a Halloween tradition organized by Friends of the Festival. The event, typically held in downtown Hanceville, was moved indoors to the civic center this year due to rain showers but still drew an impressive crowd.

Organizer Nolan Bradford said the turnout remained strong even with the change in location. “We’ve gotten upwards of 5,000 people before. Anytime you reschedule something, it’s never quite as busy, so we try to keep it going rain or shine,” Bradford said.

The Trunk-or-Treat tradition began several years ago when local churches organized it for the community. After the 2020 pandemic, Friends of the Festival stepped in to keep the tradition alive.

“The churches were doing it before, but after COVID they kind of dropped out. We’ve had funding help from them for the last couple of years, and Friends of the Festival takes donations from different things to make this and other events possible,” Bradford explained.

The event featured decorated tables with candy for trick-or-treaters. Bradford said the annual gathering has become a long-standing favorite for families in the area.

“It’s been going on long enough that people are used to it. It’s something families look forward to every year,” he said. As for his final piece of advice to young trick-or-treaters after an evening full of candy Bradford said, “Just brush your teeth before you go to bed.”
