CULLMAN, Ala. – St. Andrew’s Methodist Church has made a significant contribution toward the construction of Good Samaritan Health Clinic’s new location, assisting in furnishing one of the facility’s four exam rooms.
Senior Pastor Robert Lancaster and Finance Committee Chairman Gary Turner said the decision to give was a natural extension of the church’s mission to support the local community.
“We have several members who serve on the clinic’s board and help raise money. When we learned about the new facility, it just felt like something we needed to be part of,” said Lancaster.
The idea for the donation originated from a chance meeting and conversation between Lancaster and Jolanda Hutson, the executive director of Good Samaritan. Lancaster said he asked what it would cost to furnish an exam room fully, and Hutson later provided an estimate of around $11,000.
“Not long after that, we received a generous gift to the church,” Turner explained. “We decided that 10% of that would go directly to the clinic.”
Hutson said the contribution from St. Andrew’s brings the clinic one step closer to completing its $2.8 million capital project, which will expand services for uninsured and low-income residents.
“Our new clinic will have four exam rooms, a cardio room, a larger waiting area for after-hours education classes and even a drive-through for our medication dispensary. This gift helps make that vision possible,” said Hutson. She added that St. Andrew’s has been a faithful partner for over a decade, with congregation members and Sunday school groups consistently supporting the clinic’s operations.
The new clinic will enable Good Samaritan to expand access to affordable healthcare, prescription assistance and vision services for Cullman County residents. Both the church and the clinic hope the gift will encourage others to contribute, as three more exam rooms need to be furnished.
