Berlin Town Council talks budget, Farmers Market, Trunk or Treat

BERLIN, Ala. – Mayor Patrick Bates on Monday, Oct. 20, opened the Berlin Town Council meeting, which began with a discussion on budget adjustments for the new fiscal year.  

Budget adjustments included moving money from the General Fund to complete the Berlin Farmers Market project. The road budget got an additional $100,000 moved over for the repaving of County Road 1614, which is just waiting on the Cullman County Water Department to relocate a water meter. The council accepted these changes unanimously.

The next order of business pertained to the Farmers Market site development. Bates provided an update on construction progress and said he has struck a deal with the electricians on site.

“They’re going to have it hooked up before the end of the week,” he said.

Town Clerk Kierstyn Montgomery added, “We’ll have power before Halloween!” just in time for the trunk or treat.

The annual Trunk or Treat is happening on Halloween night – Friday, Oct. 31, from 6-8, at the Berlin Farmers Market.

“This year is extra special — it will be the first event at our brand-new Farmers Market location!” said Montgomery.

She said it will be an evening full of candy, costumes and community fun. The market is located at 50 Mt. Carmel Drive, Cullman, AL 35058. If you are interested in setting up a trunk, contact Montgomery at 256-736-3138 or clerk@berlinal.gov.

The Berlin Town Council will have an organizational meeting Monday, Nov. 3, to swear in council members  for the new term. The council will meet at 3 p.m. at the Berlin Town Hall.

Bates thanked outgoing Councilman Tony Duke for his years of service on the council. Duke replied, “It’s been a pleasure to work with y’all the past years.”

The next regular meeting of the Berlin Town Council is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. Berlin Town Hall is located at 461 County Road 1615, Cullman, AL 35058.
