VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont hosted Oakman for senior night on Friday and after pulling off a great win at Gordo last week, it was a perfect spot for a letdown game for the Eagles. Unfortunately for the home crowd, that’s exactly what happened, and Vinemont dropped its first game since Aug. 29 by a score of 40-14.
Oakman received the ball to start the game and scored on a touchdown pass on fourth down to take a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Wildcats got the ball right back after an onside kick and two plays later extended their lead to 14-0. Late in the first quarter Gabriel Herrera cut the lead to 14-7 on a 14-yard touchdown run. Late in the second quarter Oakman found the endzone to go ahead 21-7.
Oakman recovered an onside kick to start the second half and extended its lead to 28-7 midway through the third quarter. Vinemont quickly responded with a 5-yard touchdown run by Gabriel Herrera to cut the lead to 28-14 with 4:42 remaining in the third quarter. Late in the third quarter Oakman went up 34-14. The Wildcats added another touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to wrap up a 40-14 win over the Eagles.
Vinemont (6-3) will wrap up the regular season at Winfield next week.
