HOLLY POND, Ala. – Holly Pond was back home for a region battle against third-ranked Fyffe Friday night and the Red Devils gave the Broncos trouble early. Fyffe built a commanding, 34-6 lead in the first half and kept Holly Pond at arm’s length the rest of the way, pulling away to win it 54-14.
The Red Devils drove down the field and scored midway through the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Holly Pond answered with its own scoring drive, trimming the lead to 7-6 when Boston Gibbs punched in a 2-yard touchdown run with 4:41 to play in the first. Unfortunately for the home crowd, Fyffe dominated the rest of the first half and went into the locker room leading 34-6 at the break.
The Red Devils carried the momentum into the second half, scoring 20 more points in the third quarter to move in front 54-6 at one point. Gibbs’ second touchdown run of the night cut the lead to 54-14 in the final minute of the third quarter but that was the final score of the night, and the Red Devils left Holly Pond with a 54-14 win over the Broncos.
Holly Pond (4-4) will travel to Collinsville next week.
