Niki Lewis Carter passed away on October 11th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 29th, 1947, in Wichita, Kansas. As a child, her family moved around; she lived in California, Georgia, and Alabama. After graduating from Phillips High School in Birmingham, Niki studied at UAB and became a Certified Laboratory Assistant. During her time there, she met Ronny who was attending dental school, and they were married on June 29th, 1968. After marrying, they lived in Cape May, New Jersey, while Ronny served as a dentist in the Coast Guard. Then they settled in Cullman, Alabama, where they started a family and had a dental practice together for 41 years.

Niki is preceded in death by her parents, Norlin and Merrilee Lewis and her twin sister, Nancy Orr. She is survived by husband, Ronny Carter; daughter, Shannon Price (son-in-law, Lucas Price); son, Steve Carter (daughter-in-law, Stacie Carter); brother, Rick Lewis; brother, Gary Lewis; and grandchildren Libby Carter, Wilson Carter, Adie Price, and Elliott Price. She is also survived by several loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Niki had a wonderful life. She was a devoted wife and mother. For 57 years, she was faithfully and lovingly married to Ronny who always said she had “sparkle.” Being a mom was truly her greatest joy in her life; there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her kids. She was also a beloved “Niki Nana” and was always excited when her grandkids were coming to visit. Niki Nana loved playing games with her grandkids, doing puzzles, teaching them to bake, and engaging their creativity. Niki also loved being with and laughing with her siblings and her closest friends. She enjoyed gardening, going to Alabama football games, going to the beach, and decorating for all occasions (especially if it was spooky). At the age of 61, Niki turned her love of buying and wrapping gifts, decorating, and jewelry into a small business where she enjoyed helping all of her customers find something special.

Her faith always had feet. She related well to young adults and quickly won their hearts with her love of fun and blunt honesty. It made her happy to meet a need when she saw one, and she was a trusted confidante for many people. She was deeply loved and we will see her again.

Per her request, there will be no memorial service. The family will be posting on social media, and anyone who would like to give their condolences or share something about her can do so here or on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Choose Life Fund at Daystar Church in Cullman, Alabama.
