BREMEN, Ala. – Cold Springs returned home Thursday night to host a big region matchup against Coosa Christian, but the Eagles had their hands full with the second-ranked Conquerors. Coosa Christian jumped out to a 20-0 lead early in the first half and pulled away in the second half to hand Cold Springs a 41-8 loss.

The Eagles were forced to punt the ball away on their opening possession and it took Coosa Christian just one play to find the end zone, giving the Conquerors a 7-0 lead over Cold Springs with just one minute off the clock. The Eagles put together a nice drive when they got the ball back, keeping the chains moving and driving down into Coosa Christian territory. However, the scoring opportunity was cut short when a tipped ball was intercepted by the Conquerors at the 2-yard line.

Coosa Christian was forced to punt but was able to pin Cold Springs back inside its own 5-yard line and the Eagles punted the ball away a few plays later. On the ensuing possession, the Conquerors connected on a 16-yard touchdown pass to pull ahead 14-0 with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter. Coosa Christian extended its lead to 20-0 with a 55-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter but Cold Springs responded when it got the ball back. Quarterback Ayden Black went under center, and the Eagles methodically ran the ball down the field.

After a drive full of tough, short runs, Cason Alexander took a handoff around the left edge and picked up a 22-yard gain down to the 2-yard line. Cooper Johnson punched it into the end zone for a touchdown on the next play and he ran in the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 20-8 with less than two minutes to play in the half. The Conquerors were able to drive down into field goal range just before halftime, but their 29-yard attempt was wide left as time expired Cold Springs went into the locker room trailing 20-8 at the break.

Coosa Christian got off to a fast start in the second half, scoring on a 21-yard touchdown run to stretch the lead to 28-8 early in the third quarter. On the ensuing possession, the Eagles were able to convert on fourth down with a pass to Breydon Hallmon, but an interception cut the drive short a few plays later. Not long after that, the Conquerors took a screen pass 65 yards to the house for another score, pulling ahead 34-8 with four minutes to play in the third.

Cold Springs turned it over on downs early in the fourth quarter and just a few plays later, Coosa Christian took a screen pass 65 yards for a touchdown to make it a 41-8 game with 10 minutes on the clock. The Eagles converted on fourth and seven with a pass to Tidus Light midway through the final frame, but Cold Springs was unable to put any more points in the board and the Conquerors defeated the Eagles 41-8.

Cold Springs (6-2) will travel to play Southeastern next Friday.
