GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After collecting a dominant road win at Addison last week, Good Hope was back home for a region matchup against Curry Friday night. The Raiders jumped out to a 34-0 lead in the first half and with the hot clock running the second half, Good Hope cruised to a 48-8 homecoming win over the Yellow Jackets.

The Raider defense stuffed the Yellow Jackets on 4th and 1 early in the first quarter to take over on downs near midfield and just a few plays later, Carter Rutherford took a handoff 30 yards into the end zone for a touchdown to put Good Hope in front 6-0. After another turnover on downs from Curry, the Raiders scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Parker Johnson to Tucker Keef, extending the lead to 13-0 with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter.

The Yellow Jackets were forced to punt the ball away on the ensuing possession and a big return by Rutherford set up the Good Hope offense with excellent field position. A couple plays later, Mason Drake punched one into the end zone from 5 yards out to make it a 20-0 game early in the second quarter. The sequence that followed the next Curry punt was an exciting one for Raider fans.

Rutherford returned a punt for a touchdown that was brought back by a penalty and on Good Hope’s next offensive snap, Rutherford scored on a long touchdown pass that was also nullified by a flag. However, Johnson wiped out a disappointing moment for Raider fans when he raced 95 yards to the end zone on the very next play, stretching Good Hope’s lead to 27-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. The Raiders were able to add one more score before halftime when Rutherford took another handoff 71 yards to the house, giving Good Hope a commanding, 34-0 lead at the break.

With the clock running, the Raiders added to their lead on the first play of the second half when Karson Hollis broke one for 60 yards and a touchdown to make it a 41-0 game. A 19-yard touchdown run by Hunter Miller put Good Hope in front 48-0 later in the third quarter and Curry was able to find the end zone in the final frame to avoid the shutout but the Raiders wrapped up a 48-8 win to remain unbeaten.

Good Hope (6-0) will be on the road next week for a big region battle at Hamilton.
