CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Area Technology Academy and Cullman High School welcomed state and national leaders recently as part of a statewide campaign to highlight career and technical education (CTE) in Alabama. The visits were part of a three-day tour organized by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the Alabama Association for Career and Technical Education (ALACTE). The groups visited schools across the state to raise awareness about how CTE programs prepare students for careers and support the state’s workforce needs.

CATA hosted the first stop, where guests toured four of the school’s programs, including Health Science, Cybersecurity, Precision Machine and Utility Line Work. Students demonstrated skills from climbing 40-foot utility poles to monitoring real-time cyberattacks.

“It was an honor to be chosen as one of the programs featured on this tour. We’re excited anytime we can showcase what our students are doing. They do exceptional things every day,” said Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette.

The tour continued at Cullman High School, where visitors explored the Health Science Lab, the Family and Consumer Sciences building, engineering classrooms and the Animal Science program, as well as had a brief look at the school’s new CTE wing, which is currently under construction.

Cullman City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff welcomed guests and praised the school’s unique blend of strong academics and CTE instruction. “A lot of times you don’t see the blend of high rigor of instruction with strong CTE,” Kallhoff said. “But you do have that blend here, which I think is pretty unique.”
