A funeral mass for James “Larry” Grimmett, 67, of Gardendale will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 3rd at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Gardendale. Burial will follow the service at New Prospect cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday October 2nd from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home. Mr. Grimmett will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Mr. Grimmett was born November 4, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late James & Willene Grimmett. He passed away September 30, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama.
James “Larry” Grimmett, of Gardendale, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Larry lived a full and joyful life, always finding happiness in both the simple and exciting things he loved most.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially cutting grass and taking pride in his yard. Larry had a passion for speed and adventure, whether it was riding dirt bikes and motorcycles or cheering on his favorite drivers in NASCAR. He was also a devoted Alabama football fan, never missing a chance to shout “Roll Tide!” during game days.
When at home, Larry found joy in watching Home & Garden TV shows, always getting new ideas for his next project. He especially loved remodeling and improving his house, turning it into a place of comfort and pride.
Larry will be remembered for his energy, his passions, and the way he poured himself into the things he loved. His family and friends will deeply miss his presence but cherish the many memories he leaves behind.
Mr. Grimmett is survived by his wife, Julie Grimmett; children, Courtney Layfield (Michael), Chase Grimmett (Larissa); granddaughter, Briggs Layfield; siblings, Brenda Steele (Floyd), Deborah Chupp, Teresa Fields (Tim), Doug Hendrix, Robert Grimmett; mother-in-law, Cathy Wellman; sisters-in-law, Pam Montplaisir (Craig), Beth Lindberg (Mike); nieces and nephews, Zach Wigginton (Meghan), Carissa Wigginton, Emily Werely (Brian), Jacob Lindberg, Matthew Lindberg; great nephew, Thomas Werely; and a host of many other nieces and nephews.
Mr. Grimmett was preceded in death by his parents, James & Willene Grimmett; and his father-in-law, Robert W. Wellman.
