
VINEMONT, Ala. – After an action-packed day one on Monday, the Cullman County Volleyball Tournament resumed at Vinemont High School Tuesday night and the matchup for the finals is now set. West Point got things started by sweeping Fairview 3-0 to secure their spot in the championship match and Good Hope knocked off Vinemont 3-0 to advance as well. The Raiders and Eagles will meet in the county finals Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
West Point 3 – Fairview 0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-11)
The first set started out close between both teams. West Point held a slim 6-5 lead, but Fairview went on a run and ended up taking a 10-8 lead. The Lady Aggies held an 11-10 lead late in the first set. West Point completely took over after that, as they scored four straight points to take a 14-11 lead. The Lady Warriors scored eight of the next nine points to take a commanding 22-12 lead, and they would go on to win the first set 25-15.
Fairview got out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and held a 7-4 lead, but West Point battled back to tie things up at 10. The Lady Aggies jumped back in front, 12-10, but just like the first set, the Lady Warriors took control of the second set. They scored the next five points to take a 15-12 lead, and later on in the set, they scored six points in a row to stretch their lead to 21-13. Fairview cut it to 23-16, but West Point scored the final two points, as they ended up taking the second set 25-16.
It didn’t take long for West Point to get out to a quick lead in the third set, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Lady Aggies quickly made it a 5-4 game and kept it at a one-point game at 9-8. The Lady Warriors went on a little run to take a 12-8 lead and broke things wide open after that, scoring 10 straight points at one point to widen their lead to 23-9. West Point quickly closed things out after that, as they ended up rolling past Fairview 25-11 to finish the sweep.
Good Hope 3 – Vinemont 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-23)
The first set was a battle between both teams, and neither one held more than a four-point lead until the end. Four straight points by Good Hope gave them a 6-3 lead, but Vinemont battled back to tie things up at seven. That would be the first of several ties in the set. The Lady Raiders held a slim 15-11 lead more than halfway through the first set, but once again, the Lady Eagles rallied to take a 17-16 lead. Good Hope came back to take a 20-18 lead, and a late run at the end helped them get past Vinemont 25-20.
Good Hope jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the second set. Vinemont, though, came back to tie things up at seven. It didn’t take long for the Lady Raiders to pull away from the Lady Eagles after that, as a 9-0 run gave them a 16-7 lead. Vinemont cut it to 16-10, but another run by Good Hope made it 21-10. The Lady Raiders ended up taking the second set 25-15.
The third set was similar to the first one, as both teams gave it their all throughout the set. A mini run by Vinemont gave them a 7-4 lead, but Good Hope ended up coming back and taking an 11-9 lead. The Lady Raiders held a slim 18-15 lead late in the third set, but another mini run by the Lady Eagles gave them a 19-18 lead. Both teams were knotted at 22 late in the set. Good Hope broke the tie and held a 24-22 lead. Vinemont trimmed the deficit to one at 24-23, but the Lady Raiders ended up getting the final point of the set and ended up sweeping the Lady Eagles 3-0.
