ADDISON, Ala. – Good Hope made the trip to Addison’s A.G. Hicks Stadium for a battle of unbeatens Friday night, and the Raiders got off to a strong start in the opening half. Good Hope went into the locker room with a 21-0 lead at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half on its way to a dominant, 41-6 win.
Addison ran on a double pass on its first play of the game and found Scout Flynn open downfield for a big gain. However, the Raider defense stiffened and forced the Bulldogs to turn the ball over on downs a few plays later. After exchanging punts with Addison, the Raiders got the ball back late in the first quarter and took the lead when Mason Drake sprinted through the middle of the Bulldog defense and into the end zone from 40 yards out. The ensuing extra point attempt was no good and Good Hope led 6-0 with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter.
The Raiders blocked an Addison punt early in the second quarter to get great field position and just a few plays later, quarterback Parker Johnson hit Carter Rutherford on a screen pass, and he took it 27 yards to the house for another touchdown. Johnson ran in the two-point conversion and Good Hope moved in front 14-0 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Raiders capped off their next possession with another touchdown run from Drake and Titus Montgomery split the uprights with the extra point to make it a 21-0 game late in the second quarter. Addison was forced to punt it away on the ensuing possession and Good Hope went into the locker room with a 21-0 lead at the break.
The Raiders got the ball to start the third quarter and Drake punched in his third touchdown of the night to extend Good Hope’s lead to 28-0 early in the third. Caleb Boles picked off an Addison pass on the ensuing possession to give the ball back to the Raider offense on its own 12-yard line. Good Hope then went on a long, methodical drive that ate up time and yardage and Drake capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, his fourth score of the game, to make it 35-0 late in the third quarter.
The Raiders began to mix in some younger players in the fourth quarter and Cullen Phillips added to the lead when he took a handoff into the end zone for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 41-0. Addison was able to get some points on the board in the final three minutes when quarterback Elijah Roberts hit Connor Lane in the end zone for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs couldn’t chip away any more than that and Good Hope returned home with a 41-6 win.
Good Hope (5-0) will be back home next week for a region matchup against Curry and Addison (5-1) will remain home for a region game with Waterloo.
