CARBON HILL, Ala. – After collecting a big win over Midfield last week, Vinemont hit the road for another region matchup at Carbon Hill Friday night and returned home with a 38-6 win.
It took a couple drives for the Eagles offense to find their groove but after a blocked punt set up the Eagles offense inside the redzone, Josh Rhodes scored from 5 yards out to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
On the Bulldogs’ first play of the next possession, Tucker Robinson caused a fumble and JT Wilhite recovered. Early in the second quarter, Dalton Bryan plunged into the end zone from 3 yards out to put the Eagles ahead 15-0.
After forcing a punt to give the Eagles the ball back, Vinemont stretched its lead to 22-0 with two minutes remaining until halftime. On the ensuing kickoff, Will Conquest recovered a muffed kick to give the Eagles a chance to extend the lead before halftime and on the very next play, Gabriel Herrera raced 40 yards to the house to put the Eagles up 29-0 at the break.
Late in the third quarter, Yojan Patino tacked on a 31-yard field goal to extend the lead to 32-0. Carbon Hills next possession was put to a halt thanks to an interception by Deacon Foell and Zach Johnson capitalized on the interception when he scored from 3 yards out to put the Eagles up 38-0 midway through the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs found the endzone with just under six minutes remaining in the game to avoid the shutout, but Vinemont returned home with a 38-6 region win.
Vinemont (3-2) will be back home next week to take on West End.
