PREP FOOTBALL: Cold Springs collects 44-18 win at Winston County

DOUBLE SPRINGS, Ala. – Cold Springs hit the road for a showdown at Winston County Friday, and the Eagles’ offense continued to roll on its way to a big win. Cold Springs led 20-12 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to return home with a 44-18 win.

A touchdown pass from quarterback Ayden Black out to Eli Voce gave the Eagles an early, 6-0 lead but Winston County answered with a touchdown early in the second quarter to tie the game at 6. A touchdown run by Tycen Kilgo put Cold Springs back ahead by 6 and Black found Voce in the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it a 14-6 game with nine minutes remaining in the first half.

Cason Alexander punched one into the end zone to give the Eagles a 20-6 lead with just over four minutes to play in the second quarter, but the Yellow Jackets found the end zone just before halftime to cut the lead to 20-12 at the break.

Another touchdown run from Alexander, followed by a two-point run from Black, extended Cold Springs’ lead to 28-12 midway through the third quarter. Winston County put a touchdown on the board just before the end of the third to make it a 10-point game going into the fourth, but the final frame was dominated by the Eagles.

Cooper Johnson carried one into the end zone for a touchdown and then punched in the two-point conversion to keep Cold Springs ahead 36-18 with just under seven minutes to play. The Eagles put things out of reach for good on the ensuing possession when Voce scooped a Yellow Jackets fumble and ran it back 94 yards for another touchdown. Kilgo added the two-point conversion to put the finishing touches on a 44-18 road win for the Eagles.

Cold Springs (4-1) will be back on the road next week for a matchup at Lynn.
