
VINEMONT, Ala. – A big night from Dalton Bryan and a strong performance from the defense propelled the Eagles to a huge, 37-16 region victory over the Midfield Patriots Friday night. Bryan racked up four 4 touchdowns in the win to help lead the way for the Eagles.
The home team received the ball first and drove right down the field and with seven and a half minutes remaining in the opening quarter Caleb Slain gave the Eagles an 8-0 lead on an 8-yard run. Defensively the Eagles stood strong to force a three and out putting the ball back into the hands of the Eagles offense, a huge run set up the Eagles with a first and goal then two plays later Dalton Bryan plunged in from one yard out to give Vinemont a 15-0 lead with three and a half minutes left in the first quarter. Vinemont’s defense forced three more punts and a turnover on downs to maintain the lead and send the Eagles to halftime up 15-0.
Midfield scored quickly in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 15-8. Josh Rhodes found Chase Blair for a huge gain on fourth down that setup the Eagles up first and goal, on the next play Dalton Bryan scored from 3 yards out to give the Eagles a 23-8 lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter. A fumble set up the Patriots with a short field and with 2:24 remaining in the third quarter Midfield cut the lead to 23-16.
Vinemont quickly responded in the fourth quarter when Bryan scored his third touchdown of the night from 15 yards out to put the Eagles ahead 31-16. Midfield drove down the field and was set up first and goal but Vinemont’s defense stopped them on fourth and goal, on the first play of the possession Bryan rumbled for gain of 93 yards to set the Eagles up with first and goal.
Two plays later Bryan capped off his big night with his fourth touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run to put the Eagles up 37-16 with a little over three minutes remaining in the game. Vinemont’s defense forced a turnover on downs in four plays and the offense needed a first down, then had to kneel down twice to secure the 37-16 win.
Vinemont (2-2) will travel to Carbon Hill next week.
