GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope Raiders traveled to Fultondale for their region opener Friday night, and they returned home with a decisive win. Good Hope built a 42-0 lead in the first half and with the clock running and young players on the field in the second half, the Raiders cruised to a 52-0 win.

Parker Johnson got the scoring going early with a touchdown pass to Ayden Young. Chase Prewett split the uprights with the extra point and Good Hope led 7-0 just two minutes into the first quarter. Penalties stalled a couple of Raider drives after that, but they couldn’t keep them out of the end zone for long. Mason Drake scored on a 15-yard run to make it 14-0 early in the second quarter and on the defensive side of the ball, Carter Rutherford intercepted a Fultondale pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.

A 60-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Rutherford extended the lead to 28-0 midway through the second quarter and on the ensuing possession, Ross Clark recovered a bad snap in the end zone for another touchdown to make it 35-0. Another touchdown pass from Johnson to Rutherford gave the Raiders a 42-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Prewett nailed a 32-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 45-0 midway through the third quarter and early in the fourth, Kade Smith intercepted a Wildcats pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown to put the finishing touches on a 52-0 win for Good Hope.

The Raiders (2-0) will be back home next week to take on Haleyville.
