CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Community Theatre will begin hosting auditions this week for its fall production of “12 Angry Jurors.”

Cullman Community Theatre Committee Co-chair Kristy McCrickard, who was the director and fight choreographer for the group’s recent production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” is co-directing “12 Angry Jurors” with Rodney Basenburg, chairman of committee.

McCrickard said the play follows closing arguments in a murder trial, and 12 members of the jury must deliberate in a sequestered room, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen.

“This production promises all the intense drama that came with the original 1950s movie version of ‘12 Angry Men’ with Henry Fonda,” McCrickard said. “Set in our current times, the play version includes women on the jury, thus it is called ‘12 Angry Jurors,’ with the powerful storyline that still rings true today and with the message that is still clear: that jumping to conclusions can be dangerous, that due process and justice are vital and that one voice can make a difference.”

The production will be staged in the round, which means the audience will get an up-close and personal view of the acting and almost feel like part of the process, McCrickard said.

“This will be a powerful, important theater program that you don’t want to miss,” she said. “People can get involved by following us on our social media: Cullman Community Theatre Facebook and Instagram. We have online interest and donation forms — all they have to do is reach out and we will reach back. We are always welcoming new people with various levels of experience. We believe everyone can contribute to theater.”
