CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Public Library Board held its monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 21. It approved minutes from the previous meeting, along with the financial report and a clean audit review. Cullman County Public Library System (CCPLS) Director Amber Thornton shared that she had reached out to the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) for legal guidance regarding library ownership, which she said is currently held by the library board but may need to be transferred to the City of Cullman or Cullman County Commission.
The success of the library’s summer reading program was recognized, along with recent bookmobile activity. The staff was recognized for participating in a professional development culture workshop and shared updates on digital literacy classes being held in partnership with Wallace State Community College and the Cullman Electric Cooperative.
The library recently received a donation from a West Point family in memory of their late son, which funded the purchase of new picnic tables now located behind the library building.
Thornton is set to represent the library during a Washington, D.C. fly-in Sept. 15–18, as part of the library’s ongoing Capital Campaign efforts. Finally, an internal staff promotion from page to library aid was announced, along with the onboarding of new volunteers.
The next board meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at the main branch of the CCPLS, located at 200 Clark St. NE.
