GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Students at West Point High School and Good Hope High School participated in a pair of special assemblies this week. Andrea Mills, founder of the Love Like Lexi (LLL) Project spent Monday and Tuesday mornings hosting assemblies at both schools to share her family’s story. Mills lost her daughter, Lexi Webb, to suicide in 2019 and she started the LLL Project in an effort to help students better combat their own struggles and prevent any other parents from experiencing the same loss.

“We are always very careful before we partner with a school to actually hear the heart behind the administration so we can’t do what we need to do without their support and we’re very grateful. I want you to know personally that I do not take your presence sitting in those seats for granted,” Mills said. “I should not be standing up here and I should not have this microphone in my hand, so it is an honor to even be standing here. Our hope is that after this assembly is done and we’ve shared our story with you that you in turn will share your story with us because it matters. It absolutely matters.”

According to its website:

“The Love Like Lexi Project exists to provide students with hope, self-worth, and purpose while raising awareness around adolescent suicide. The project aims to strengthen self-esteem among students and provide positive social connections and support within the student’s family, peer groups, classrooms, and school. Finding hope and community can be a key protective factor for students’ emotional wellness.

“Our mission is to ensure our youth understand that their life has significance. We desire to bring Hope, Community & Purpose to every school, every youth group, every student, and every home. Equipping students to abandon untrue thoughts and choose LIFE. A life filled with hope for the future.

“The Project’s primary focus is to encourage self-esteem amongst students and to provide positive social connections and support within the student’s family, peer groups, classrooms and school. Finding hope and community can be a key protective factor for students emotional wellness.

“Five Key Areas

  • Building Purpose and Sharing Hope
  • Building Self-Worth and Empathy
  • Building Strength and Resilience
  • Building Positive Social Connection and Community
  • Identifying Core Values and Character Development

“The project begins with an assembly where a story of hope is shared. This story has positively impacted thousands of students, parents and teachers by building connection and conversations. After the assembly students are given the opportunity to take part in our LLL Workbook that is designed to build resilience, problem solving, personal reflection and self-awareness.

“The workbook helps create a permanent positive change to each student individually. At the end of the project students will have the opportunity to participate in a community Love Project. The Love Project can be completed within their school or community. The LLL Project envisions schools full of students who are inspired to learn and reach their full potential academically, emotionally and socially.”

Mills shared more about her daughter Lexi and how she treated everyone around her. Lexi’s kindness inspired Miller to try and make a positive impact in others’ lives.

“Everyone truly mattered to her. She made every single person she met feel like they were the only person in her life and that is why we call this project the ‘Love Like Lexi Project’” Mills said. “Because the way she showed up in people’s lives left a legacy behind. I often say that the word love is just a word until someone comes along in your life and gives that word true meaning. She did that for others.”
