A graveside service for Ruth Burr White, 95, of Hanceville, AL will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30th at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Bro. Wayne Wisener will officiate the service. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Saturday at Hanceville Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Mrs. White was born on August 27, 1929, to the late Ryland Weston Burr and Zada Martin Burr in Russellville, West Virginia. She passed away on August 22, 2025, at Huntsville Health & Rehab Center. After graduating from Nuttall High School in Lookout WV, she attended WV University in Morgantown, WV and obtained her teaching certificate. She taught 8 grades in a one room school in Russellville and married Billy Lee White in 1950. In addition, Mrs. White was rich in her faith and was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Hanceville, Alabama for more than 15 years.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Catherine Stewart and husband Jason of Hazel Green, AL; great grandsons, Hoyt Stewart and Wyatt Stewart; siblings, Jerald R. Burr and wife Margaret of Russellville, WV & Elmer (Perky) Burr and wife Mary Sue, Russellville, WV; sisters-in-law, Glenna Burr, Helen O’Dell; and a host of many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee White; son, Jeffrey White; daughter-in-law, Caren White; and siblings, James R. Burr, Janice Boley, Jerry R. Burr, Tryphena Mayhew, and Robert W. Burr.
