HALEYVILLE, Ala. – West Point hit the road to take on the Lions of Haleyville in its season opener Friday night and the Warriors returned home with a win to start the year 1-0. West Point went into the locker room with a 17-6 lead at halftime and put two more touchdowns on the board in the second half to pull away with a 30-6 win.

After a slow start to the opening quarter, Warriors running back Ollie Howell punched one into the end zone from 4 yards out late in the first to give West Point a 7-0 lead going into the second. After Haleyville scored to trim the lead to 7-6, quarterback Ayden Ennis connected with Jaxon Shelton through the air for a touchdown to keep West Point in front with 14-6 early in the second quarter.

The Warriors tacked on a field goal in the final moments of the first half to take a 17-6 lead into the locker room at the break.

Howell’s second touchdown of the night, this one from 10 yards out, made it a 24-6 game just two minutes into the third quarter. That score held for the rest of the third and with just over five minutes to play in the fourth, Rush Lamar raced into the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown to put the finishing touches on a 30-6, season-opening win for West Point.

The Warriors (1-0) will try to build on the momentum when they travel to Good Hope next week.
