WEST POINT, Ala. – Tuesday was an exciting day at West Point High School as students were joined by representatives from the Cullman County Board of Education to cut the ribbon on a new multipurpose facility.

The new facility is located just behind the softball field and County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette is excited to see all the ways it will be used to help all the school’s programs.

“This is not just a football facility, it’s something that we can use for band or anything we need. I’m even envisioning a portable stage in here that we use for something for parents one night. We want to use this facility, and we want to take care of it,” Barnette said. “So, I want to put a little pressure on all of you upperclassmen to encourage your peers to take care of it and if we do that it should last us a very long time.”

There are plans for new facilities at the other county campuses as well and Barnette is looking forward to seeing the impact they will have.

“We’re excited. This is our first multipurpose facility that we’ve built in Cullman County and we’re going to do some version of this at each of our schools to have other facilities that we can use for many different things,” Barnette said. “So, I want to say to our kids, please appreciate everything the board has done for you. I know our administrators are going to lead them to take care of it, so I think it’ll be here for a very long time, and we’ll keep finding new ways to use it.”
