LYNN, Ala. — Addison traveled to Lynn to take on the county rival Bears in a jamboree game Thursday night as they prepare to officially kick off the season next week. The Bulldogs returned home with a 28-14 loss but they still have time to patch some things up in practice before facing Winston County with hopes of breaking a 4-game losing streak to the Jackets.

Addison got the ball on its own 30 and Bulldog quarterback Elijah Roberts scampered for 22 yards on the first play but three plays later the Dawgs had to punt.

The Bears and Dawgs exchanged possessions before Lynn took over at its own 20-yard line and scored eight plays later when Chip Crowe found Coby Sherer for a 35-yard touchdown pass. It was Crowe’s only pass of the night. Crowe ran in the two-point conversion and Lynn led 8-0 at the beginning of the second quarter.

Addison responded quickly on the next drive on the arm and legs of Roberts. Addison went 70 yards in four plays, with Roberts running it in from 52 yards out. Roberts ran in the two-point conversion, and the game was tied at 8 with 10:30 to go in the half.

Lynn came right back with a methodical drive of seventy yards on twelve plays using up almost eight minutes of the quarter to score the go-ahead touchdown. Bears running back Blake Boyd effectively ran the ball seven times on the drive. With the Bears facing a fourth and eight at the Bulldog 35-yard line, quarterback Bryce Baughn rolled to the right, avoided the rush by breaking a tackle for a sack and found Chip Crowe for the 35-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was no good and at the half, Lynn led Addison 14-8.

The Bears then took the second half kickoff and drove 70 yards on 11 plays for the Bears third touchdown of the night. Bear running backs Boyd, Crowe and Jon Jordan split 11 carries between them and Jordan cashed in from eight yards out for the touchdown to put the game away. Jordan also ran in the two-point conversion to give Lynn the 22-8 lead with just over five minutes to go in the third quarter.

Addison took over with 9.5 seconds to go in the third quarter and turned in their best drive of the night. The Dawgs went 70 yards in 10 plays. Roberts had two big completions on the drive, the first to Judah Wilkins for 14 yards and the second to Trennon Burns for 29 yards. Seth Hammack chipped in 14 yards on three carries and Roberts finished the drive off with a two-yard run to cut the Bear lead to 22-14 after the failed two-point play.

The Bulldog defense got a big three and out and gave the ball back to the Bulldog offense with 6:28 to go in the fourth quarter. Addison took over at their own 28-yard line and after a first down, the Bears defense stood up and forced a turnover on downs, giving the Bears the ball at the Addison 32 with only 3:22 to go in the game.

It took Lynn only three plays to go 32 yards and score and a Boyd 11-yard touchdown run. The two-point was no good and the game had its final score at Lynn 28 – Addison 14.

Addison had some good things to build on, but they still have room to improve if they want to have the kind of season that the team and coaches are aiming for.
