ADDISON, Ala. – Tuesday was a special day at Addison High School. Friends, family and coaches gathered to celebrate one Bulldog standout taking the next step in their athletic career. After putting together a phenomenal senior season that included 1A Hitter of the Year and First-Team All-State honors, Jed Wilkins signed a national letter of intent to continue his playing career at Bevill State on Tuesday. During his senior season, Wilkins batted .500, racked up 60 hits and 34 RBIs, recorded 15 doubles and six home runs.
Addison Head Baseball Coach Lee Williams was proud of Wilkins for earning the opportunity at Bevill State and is looking forward to watching him play at the next level.
“Jed is an amazing athlete that overcame an ACL injury as a junior to having an amazing season last year to help lead our team to the Semifinals for only the second time in history,” Williams said. “He has an incredible work ethic and is one of the most talented players I have ever seen and coached. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to Coach him but most importantly to get to be a small part of seeing him live out his dream of playing college baseball. Well-deserved and can’t wait to see him excel at the next level.”
Wilkins liked what he saw when he watched Bevill play, and he’s already started preparing so that he can contribute to the team when he arrives.
“Bevill first caught my eye with how their baseball team improved throughout the season. When I watched them play, they seemed to have a common goal, a great bond, and played with energy,” Wilkins said. “Currently, I am trying to work hard on being physically and mentally ready for this next level of baseball.”
