CULLMAN, Ala. – A Falkville man was arrested by the Cullman Police Department in connection to a theft reported at the Red Roof Inn in Cullman on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Through the use of surveillance footage and investigative efforts, officers were able to identify the suspect as 40-year-old Stanley Baker of Falkville.

Shortly after the theft occurred, officers from Shift 2B conducted a traffic stop on Baker for unrelated traffic violations, the CPD said. At the time, officers were unaware he had just allegedly committed the theft. During the stop, Baker was arrested on unrelated charges, including outstanding warrants and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

While conducting the stop, officers allegedly observed several tools in the vehicle commonly associated with burglary. However, according to the CPD, there was not enough probable cause at the time to make an arrest for possession of burglary tools.

Following further investigation, officers from Shift 1B were able to obtain and execute a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle. Inside, they allegedly recovered multiple burglary tools believed to have been used in the theft.

Baker was formally charged with fourth-degree theft of property and possession of burglary tools. He remains in custody.

“The Cullman Police Department commends the diligent efforts of both Shift 2B and Shift 1B officers for their teamwork and thorough investigative work that led to the successful resolution of this case,” said the CPD.
