Cullman County man charged with using cell phone to steal debit card info

CULLMAN, Ala. – Christopher Michael Melvin, 45, of Vinemont, was arrested July 31, charged with one count of identity theft and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card.

According to court records, the identify theft charge stems from Melvin allegedly recording the victim’s debit card information with his cell phone on June 13, 2025, at Love’s Travel Stop at 497 County Road 222.

The two counts of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card stem from Melvin allegedly using the victim’s card to obtain services in the amount of $231.01 from the Cullman Electric Cooperative on June 13, 2025, and to obtain services in the amount of $121.38 from the Days Inn located at 1841 Fourth St. SW in Cullman on June 16, 2025.
