LOGAN, Ala. – Harmony School held its traditional Hawk Fest celebration on Saturday, July 26, giving the community a chance to come together before the start of a new school year. This year’s event had special significance as the school officially unveiled a brand-new gym floor.

Principal Kevin Sullins said Hawk Fest was the perfect time to showcase the renovation, with district leaders, local families and key sponsors in attendance. “We wanted to have something fun for our community to kick off the school year,” he said, emphasizing the importance of creating a space  students, faculty and staff can take pride in.

The new gym floor adds a fresh look to the facility, which will benefit school athletics and other student programs. Although Harmony now serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade, its athletic programming still includes leagues for kindergarten through second grade, as well as a Pee Wee program. Sullins noted that the new floor is a source of pride not only for the students, but also for the entire Harmony community. The project was made possible thanks to Traditions Bank and its president, Tim Compton, who fully sponsored the renovation. Sullins said the bank has long supported the school and continues to play an instrumental role in community initiatives.

In addition to the gym reveal, Hawk Fest served as a relaxed, family friendly back-to-school celebration featuring bounce houses, pony rides, local vendors, food trucks and live entertainment. Cassie Swann, a PTO volunteer and event organizer, said Hawk Fest was first introduced to bring the community together at the start of the school year. While the event paused for a few years, it returned this year as a way to help faculty, staff, families and students start the year on a positive note following the school’s recent transition from a K–8 to a K–5 model.

“Hawk Fest is really about the kids and the community – getting all of them together in one place,” Swann said.

Local vendors, many of whom live near the school and know the students personally, contributed to the festive atmosphere with games, crafts and shopping booths. A PTO merchandise station offered Harmony-branded apparel and provided parents and caregivers with an opportunity to sign up for volunteer activities throughout the year.

Swann emphasized the importance of community support and volunteers in making the event, as well as school initiatives like the gym renovation, possible. Traditions Bank, once again, played a major role in Hawk Fest’s success this year as a primary sponsor.
