Ethel Alexander announces candidacy for mayor of Colony

COLONY, Ala. – Ethel Alexander has announced her candidacy for mayor of Colony.

Below is a summary of her announcement.

Ethel L. Alexander is a servant for the people: transparent, dedicated and committed.

She serves as council woman for the Town of Colony located in Cullman County, Past President of the Birmingham African American Genealogy Group, Inc. (BAAGG), representative for the Black Heritage Council (BHC) for District 4 for the State of Alabama, and a historian, author, genealogist and creative writer. 

She is a retired special education teacher (Central Park Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama) and was an interim principal at St. Paul Academy in Rockford, Illinois.

Alexander has a Master of Education Degree in Special Education/Specific Learning Disabilities from Alabama A&M University (1996) and a Bachelor of Technical Studies in Computer Management Information Systems from Alabama A&M University (1992). She also received certification in African American Studies from UAB (2006).

Alexander’s hobbies include genealogy, photography, traveling and art. She has four sons, four granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

The Colony Municipal Election will take place Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025.
