CULLMAN, Ala. – The Rumors Deli part of Hank’s Sports Bar & Rumors Deli celebrated 25 years of business on Friday, July 25. While the restaurant has seen changes over the years, the spirit of Rumors remains the same.
“It’s awesome,” said General Manager Kendrick Boudreaux. “Today is about Rumors. We’re just glad to be part of the community and help out restaurants around here like we’ve been doing.”
Beginning as a humble family dream, Rumors Deli first opened its doors in the Warehouse District in July 2000. Founded by Annette Harris, Rumors’ goal was to serve the best sandwiches while focusing on work ethic and community. Rumors moved to its current location at 601 Fourth St. SW in 2018. Harris plays a role in the restaurant’s continued success, even after the torch was officially passed to the Coombs family, who bought the business in 2021.
Hank’s introduced the bar concept with the classic deli and completed a full remodel, but the history of Rumors is far from forgotten.
Boudreaux credits much of the deli’s longevity to a strong team, supportive community and loyal regulars. “Just the teamwork, having good support behind us and our employees…and good customers and good regulars. The community, really.”
To celebrate the 25-year milestone, Hank’s Sports Bar & Rumors Deli hosted a day-long celebration complete with live music by The Overtones, happy hour specials and a photo station.
Looking to the future, Boudreaux said the team has ideas for expansion, including plans for the upstairs area and eventually opening a second location. However, for now, the focus remains on serving great food, hosting events and participating in community traditions like Oktoberfest and 2nd Fridays.
