CULLMAN, Ala. – The grand opening of the Cullman OmniPlex was held Friday, July 25, marking a significant milestone for local recreation, tourism and community engagement.

“The opening of the Cullman OmniPlex marks a historic step forward for our community,” said Nathan Anderson, executive director of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism. “This is more than just a sports venue; it’s a civic hub designed to serve every generation in Cullman.”

The new indoor facility includes eight full-sized basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts and flexible space for events, STEM camps, arts programs and fitness activities. According to Anderson, it’s already boosting the local economy.

“So far 25,000 people have been through this facility, and we estimate the economic impact to be around $6 million. We had record hotel occupancy in May and June. Looking at the north Alabama region, we took first place for the first time in Cullman County’s history in hotel occupancy. It’s never been done in our history, and we beat out Lauderdale County and Madison County,” said Anderson.

The grand opening celebration featured guided tours, activities, food, entertainment and a short ceremony with remarks from Mayor Woody Jacobs and City Council President Jenny Folsom.

“This is more than a building — it’s a statement about who we are as a community. The OmniPlex reflects Cullman’s commitment to excellence and providing opportunity for all. Just like the civic center did generations ago, this facility will shape lives and energize our city for decades to come,” Jacobs said.

Added Folsom, “The OmniPlex is a bold investment in Cullman’s future. It gives our kids more opportunities, our families more experiences and our local businesses more reasons to thrive. We are proud of what this community has built together.”

The OmniPlex will host tournaments, camps, expos and local programs like OmniPlay Academy, an expanded after-school initiative.

Anderson said the facility is designed to be versatile: “Every week will look a little different — and that’s the beauty of the OmniPlex. Whether you’re a parent, athlete, vendor or volunteer — the OmniPlex is here for you.”
