CULLMAN, Ala. – Go Platinum Salon is once again giving back to local families with its third annual Back-to-School Free Haircut Day, set for Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Daystar Church in Cullman. The event is open to all school-aged children in grades K–12 and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stylists will provide basic clipper cuts and trims to help students start the new school year looking dapper and feeling confident — completely free of charge. While there won’t be vendors or school supplies offered this year, Go Platinum owner Kristen Cryer said they welcome any donations from businesses or individuals who would like to contribute supplies.

Cryer and her Go Platinum team, Emma Brock and Madison O’Steen, will provide haircuts throughout the day, with additional local stylists expected to join the effort. Volunteers are still welcome, with Cryer noting that extra help with haircutting, cleanup or organizing donations would be greatly appreciated.

“This will be our third year of free haircuts,” Cryer shared. “Our first year, it was held in our small salon, but we had such a huge turnout that we needed a much bigger space. We are thankful for Daystar Church and for the space they’re providing.”

With the rapid growth of the event each year, Cryer continues to be motivated by its mission, as evidenced by the smiles and positive impact they have on kids and families in the community who attend.

“What continues to motivate us is the love God has placed in our hearts for people,” Cryer said. “We believe in using our gifts He’s given us to serve others, especially kids. It’s an amazing feeling to see the smiles on their faces and know we helped make a difference, even in a small way.”

She added, “Our hope is that every kid leaves feeling confident and ready to take on the new school year. We want families to feel supported, knowing their community is here to lift them up.”
