Cullman’s Lauren Hughes shines at Southeastern Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Lauren Hughes, a 10-year-old swimmer from Cullman and member of the Cullman Swim Association, delivered an outstanding performance at the Southeastern Swimming Long Course Championships held in Huntsville this past weekend.

The prestigious meet featured top swimmers from Alabama, Tennessee, and the Florida Panhandle and is sanctioned by USA Swimming, the governing body for the U.S. Olympic Team.

Lauren’s impressive results included:

  • 1st place – 50 Breaststroke
  • 2nd place – 100 Breaststroke
  • 3rd place – 50 Butterfly
  • 4th place – 200 Individual Medley
  • 5th place – 100 Butterfly
  • 9th place – 100 Freestyle

In addition to her event finishes, Lauren placed second overall in the High-Point competition for 9-10 year-old girls.

Her victory in the 50 Breaststroke marks a historic milestone, making her the first swimmer from Cullman to win an individual event at this championship in the history of the Cullman Swim Association.
